Our Story Nida Tours

Our family’s journey in tourism began with our great-grandfather, Late Gh. Ahmad Sheikh, who owned bathing boats on the beautiful Dal Lake in Srinagar. In those days, bathing boats were a unique attraction for visitors and offered facilities for activities such as sunbathing, swimming, water surfing, and water skiing. His work introduced visitors to the natural beauty of Kashmir and laid the foundation for our family’s long-standing tradition of hospitality.

This legacy was proudly continued by our Great Father, Late Mohammad Abdullah Sheikh, who warmly welcomed both domestic and international travelers visiting Kashmir. Alongside his work in tourism and hospitality, he was also involved in the film industry during movie shootings in Kashmir, assisting film crews and production teams visiting the region.

During that time, several Bollywood movies were filmed in Kashmir—including Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon, Mere Sanam, Kajal, and Spy in Rome. Our great father worked closely with the film crews during these productions. One of our most cherished family memories is legendary actor Dharmendra gifting him a cap during the shooting of the film Kajal.

As the family tradition evolved, the third generation expanded into new ventures. In 1988, Mr. Sheikh Firdous started a handicrafts business in Kolkata, promoting authentic Kashmiri handicrafts and craftsmanship. Even today, he continues to travel to Kolkata to manage and maintain this traditional business.

In 1990, Mr. Sheikh Parvez founded Nida Tours and Travels. With a deep passion for travel and hospitality, he traveled extensively across India to gain firsthand knowledge of destinations and the tourism industry. Through dedication, experience, and strong industry connections, he developed Nida Tours and Travels into a trusted company specializing in organizing tours across India.

Continuing our commitment to hospitality, the family opened a guest house in Srinagar in 2011, located near the famous Dal Lake, offering guests a comfortable stay and an authentic Kashmiri experience.

Today, the fourth generation of the family is also actively involved in supporting and developing the family’s tourism activities. Mr. Sheikh Waseeq, the grandson of Late Mohammad Abdullah Sheikh, now works alongside his uncles in the family business. A passionate traveler, he began solo traveling at the age of 19 and has since explored many destinations across India and internationally, including Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. His experiences bring fresh ideas and a modern perspective to the family’s long-standing tourism tradition.

Today, Nida Tours and Travels stands as the proud result of generations of experience in the travel and hospitality industry, reflecting the passion, knowledge, and dedication that our family has passed down from one generation to the next.
